Hey guys. So I've clearly dropped the ball writing for my own blog that I started. It's been a couple weeks since I've posted anything, except for Pete's reviews going up last week. Now, I'm not the type to whine and complain about stuff in my life so I'm not going to. Shit happens to everybody and sooner or later every person gets knocked down in their life. The big difference between people is whether or not they can pick themselves back up and become stronger after getting knocked out. And that's what I intend to do.
Some things have happened to me recently in my personal life, almost none of them pleasant except for one potentially amazing thing, but also something happened to me that directly effects this blog: I've become disillusioned. With comic books in general, as honestly most of the books on my pull list I just flat out don't enjoy at all anymore. But, I also became disillusioned with this site, with my own blog, because I realized that I was trying to copy other people's sites and ideas and I wasn't concentrating on making my own stand out. The highlight of my year so far was getting my article on Dark Reign published at the Weekly Crisis, yet nothing I've written for my own site was anything like that article.
Let's start with the world of comic books though. My pull list up to a month ago was as follows: Dark Avengers, Siege, Blackest Night, Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, Secret Warriors. Out of those books, the only title that I really liked reading and really felt like I didn't waste my time or money on was Secret Warriors. Blame it on event fatigue (ha, that's the name of this... never mind), but I just flat out do not give two shits about either of the big events anymore, and thank god that Blackest Night is over with. But, Blackest Night #8 has left me completely at a loss as to why I bother reading comics. (SPOILERS FOR BLACKEST NIGHT #8) In this issue, there were several heroes and villains that were dead brought back to life at the end of the issue, including the male Hawk, the original Captain Boomerang, and the original Firestorm. Look, we all knew that Martian Manhunter, Aquaman and Hawkman/girl were all going to be coming back from the dead and I'm totally cool with that, killing J'onn was the dumbest move DC has made even though FC: Requiem was such a terrific issue. But I have a serious problem with Geoff Johns bringing characters back for no reason other than he loves using these characters and loves the Silver Age. Captain Boomerang had his story end in a great, touching way and we saw the mantle passed to his son Owen who had nothing but potential. But, Johns doesn't want to use Owen, he wants Digger so fuck the fans of Owen since they don't matter. Well you know what, I really liked Owen Harkness and I thought that he could've been a really terrific character and I loved his time on the Outsiders and the new Suicide Squad, but it doesn't matter since my opinion doesn't count. It's the same way that I can't read good stories anymore about my two favorite DC characters, Kyle Rayner and Wally West, because every comic is about how AWESOME Hal Jordan and Barry Allen are. That's what Blackest Night #8 boiled down to: Hal and Barry are awesome and save the day, and the Silver Age is the only viable age in the DCU. Now, I can read GL Corps for my Kyle fix, but in the Blackest Night mini (a Green Lantern event mind you) Kyle shows up a grand total of 10 pages in the entire 8 issues. Oh and Wally? He only shows up as Barry's second fiddle and doesn't have his own book or team anymore.
Frankly, the best comics I've read have been independent comics, some that don't have anything to do with superheroes, or the Rhino story-arc in Amazing Spider-man which I bought because I heard it was so great. So I've decided that I'm cutting the fat and severing all ties to shitty books that make me not want to read another comic. I'm not even going to bother finishing Siege or Dark Avengers, and you better believe I'm staying away from Bendis's Avengers books like the plague after the Heroic Age launches. Instead, I'm going to get the trade for Hickman's Fantastic Four and start buying the issues of that. I'm going to keep buying stuff like Last Days of American Crime and the Boys. I'm not just going to buy things because I've always bought them, and I'm going to make sure that when I buy comic books I buy them because I'll enjoy them and they'll make me happy damn it! And I'm going to buy Hickman' S.H.I.E.L.D book too, because that looks like the best freaking comic ever.
Now, as for this site. Don't worry, Event Fatigue will still be going and going strong, but I'm not going to be posting every day and will most likely only post once or twice a week. I'm going to put thought into my articles and write about concerns that I have with the comic book industry or pop culture or society in general. I'm going to write mostly opinion and editorial pieces about things that matter to me and things that I want to write about. And I'm going to start writing more plays and even a couple comic book scripts to further that part of my life. Peter will still be reviewing comics, but I'm doing away with most of the features for now, scaling everything back until I'm sure what I want to do. Sometimes you have to tear things down to build something up.
And that's what I'm doing, throughout my life. I'm commited to building the best things possible and to that end I first have to tear things down. But things will be better because of it. At least I hope so anyway.

Might Be Out of Touch for a Little While...
Hey gang, so I am acting in a show this weekend here in Chicago called A Look Through Our Eyes. I'm really excited about the performances for the show as I feel that it is a very good and incredibly moving piece. What this means, however, is that I'm going to be in tech tonight and doing performances this weekend, so I won't have any time to post new stuff to the blog until Sunday. But after this weekend, I'm planning on kicking things off for the blog with a Trade Secrets on Chew vol. 1, a Put it Out to Pasture on Bendis's Avengers run, and a return of the All-time Awesome Lines from Comics spotlighting one of favorite on-going series The Walking Dead. So until then, I thought I would help tide you over with this screenshot from the hilarious blog Failbooking, from the people who brought us Failblog.org, and a link to their new site so you can go on there and ROTFL to your hearts content (I don't know what that means, I don't get most internet speak). Check it out:

The Future of Event Fatigue
Man, the last three months have flown by. It feels like yesterday I just started this blog as a way to goof off and as an outlet for my bitter comic book related cynicism. But in three months I've written over fifty articles (some were really short) for this fair blog and I was joined by two of my very good friends from IWU, Tim Dunn and Peter Durkin, as co-authors who will help to balance out the perspectives of the site. So, with the first couple steps and growing pains out of the way, what is there to look forward to? LOTS! Hit the jump for a little preview of what 2010 has in store for our fair blog.

Coming Soon: Bigger and Better, and now with 200% more people!
Hey all! I have some very exciting news to report to you all today, as soon Event Fatigue will no longer be just me writing about whatever I want to, but Peter Durkin and Tim Dunn will soon be joining the blog as Authors! The big thing that this means is that it will no longer be only me writing posts, but all three of us will now be posting a variety of awesome topics!
I know that Peter is planning on doing a weekly comic book review post, plus all sorts of other opinion/editorial or whatever other kind of posts that he wants to do. Since Peter is going to be doing reviews, I think I will focus my comic book posts on bringing back Best Lines of the Week, and maybe even do a spotlight post on a book that I either loved or hated that Pete didn't already cover. And Tim Dunn has talked about doing a couple posts about video games, along with whatever other topics that he wants to cover. Let me tell you, whatever topics either of these guys decide to write about, they're going to be awesome and if you are a fan of this site then you should be really excited that it won't just be me and my terrible grammer/spelling all the time. It's up to Pete and Tim when their first posts go up, so just keep an eye out for them but I really wanted to give everybody the heads up that changes were taking place here and they are very exciting. So have a great Sunday everybody, and let's go Bears!

Welcome to Event Fatigue!
Hey all, and welcome to my humble attempt at entering the world of blogging. I've always thoroughly enjoyed several blogs found on the Internet devoted to not only comics and other nerd things that I love, but also sports and even just about the world in general.
This site is going to be mostly dedicated to opinions and editorials, mostly about my thoughts and my "unique" take on things, but I also will probably include reviews on comic books and movies and also sharing things that I find awesome or hilarious. Also, at the beginning of next year I am going to be doing an experiment and writing about my progress as I go through it here on this site. It's still too early to talk about, as I haven't done anything but think it up in my head, but this will be the first place that I talk about it once I have everything set up for it. It's going to be awesome.
What's in the Site?
What's in the Site?
This site is going to be designed as a forum for talking about various different topics, with most of the articles will be written by me, especially at first but hopefully adding in some more authors who will write about whatever they want to write about.
- In the world of comic books, I'm going to be writing a series of editorials about the world of comics, in addition to doing reviews for the books I follow.
- In film, I'm going to be compiling my personal Top 100 movies of all time, based solely on personal preference, and listing them up to the Top 20 where I will be posting movie by movie everyday with explanations why I love that movie.
- I'll also be covering sports through a series of posts, the first of which will be in a week or so entitled "Why We Have to Fire Lovie Smith", which will be a light-hearted romp through recent Chicago Bears history.
- In addition to those main points, I'm also going to be covering other different areas too, including a post soon about Cover songs that are better than the Original. Aside, from that, I'll be covering anything and everything in between.
- Also, given my active social life and rampant alcoholism, there will inevitable be several posts that I make while completely intoxicated, which rather than safe-guarding against I figured I would just embrace it, so be on the lookout for those. I guarantee they will not be hard to find.
So with all of these dissimilar things that I am going to be talking about, how will you know if it's something that interests you? Let's say you're an avid comic book fan, but could care less about the Chicago Bears, professional wrestling, or anything sports related for that matter. No problem, because I am going to have markers on everything I post. That way, all you have to do is look at the handy picture next to the post to see what category it falls into.
For everything comic book related, this picture will appear next to the first paragraph:

For an article about movies or film related, this picture will appear:

For an article about movies or film related, this picture will appear:

For any article about sports, this picture will appear next to it:

And any other topic will get this logo:
And when I do make a post completely hammered, this logo
(most likely the day after it is posted) will appear next to that post:
Easy enough right? I hope so. Well, I hope you enjoy my site, and I'm going to now start getting to work on getting tons of cool stuff for you all to enjoy. Thanks for reading!
