Nemesis
Well, the project has now been revealed to be Nemesis, a new series from Icon, Marvel's creator owned imprint, about essentially an evil Batman who picks a law enforcement agent and schemes to drive him over the edge. Millar describes it like this:
"Nemesis" is a reversal of the Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark archetype. What if this genius billionaire was just this total shit, and the only thing that stood between him and a city was the cops? It's Batman versus Commissioner Gordon, in a weird way. Or maybe a super-villain version of "Se7en." A billionaire anarchist up against ordinary people. The Joker's the best thing in the Batman movies, so this guy is a bit of an amalgamation of all the stuff we like. And here's a teaser pic from McNiven:
I think this sounds awesome, and since McNiven is one of a few artists who I will buy just about anything he does, simply because his art is so pretty. Take a look at these:
And aside from McNiven's awesome artwork, I am an unabashed Millar supporter. The simple fact is, unlike guys like Morrison or Bendis, when Millar sets up an action scene he will not only deliver the promised action, but it'll be over-the-top and mind blowingly awesome. See, when Bendis builds and builds a fight or showdown between characters, all they end up doing is talking or fighting the Hood instead of who you really want to fight, or worse it takes like 5 years for them to actually fight. But if Millar sets up a fight, then dedicates three whole issues of nothing but crazy and insane action of them fighting, the Ultimates was essentially 2 issues of set-up for 4 straight issues of fighting. Look, Millar is not as brilliant as Warren Ellis or JLA era Morrison, but the guy can flat out write the hell out of comic book action, which is something you can't say about a lot of writers. I'm super excited for Nemesis and I can't wait for it to start.
