Malevolent March: Day 2

For the month of March, I'm going to try something new for the blog, so every day I am going to spotlight a different villain from comic books, movies, TV, etc. It's mostly going to be my all-time favorite villains, with some crazy random ones thrown in there for good measure, so check back every day to see the newest villain in Malevolent March!


Today, I'm going to spotlight one of my favorite comic book villains, someone with an awesome name and look, and who is finally making his return to super-villainy! He was involved in the one of the biggest surprises in comic book history, and he is the 13th in a long line of bad-asses. Hit the jump for the villain!

Baron Zemo

Background: The 13th Baron Zemo, Helmut was born in Nazi Germany and grew up idolizing his father who was an inventor for the Nazis. Helmut's father Heinrich had his face bonded to a mask after a fight with Captain America, and ended up fighting Cap numerous times throughout the war and even ended up being the one who caused Cap and Bucky's being frozen in the Atlantic Ocean. After Captain America was revived in present time, Cap and the Avengers fought Heinrich Zemo and his Masters of Evil, and in the battle Zemo was crushed to death in an avalanche that he caused. Helmut blamed Captain America for the death of his father and took the mantle of Baron Zemo and led the Masters of Evil against the Avengers numerous times, once even taking over Avengers Mansion and nearly killing Hercules.

After the heroes were believed dead, Zemo and his Masters disguised themselves as superheroes called the Thunderbolts in an effort to take over the world, which would have succeeded but several of the Thunderbolts turned on Zemo and became legitamate superheroes. Zemo himself reformed at some point and saved the universe from destruction, but word is that he will be the main villain for Bucky Cap moving forward into the Heroic Age after Siege ends, and I for one couldn't be happier to have villainous Zemo back!
