All-Time Awesome Lines From Comics - 1/21

I'm bringing this feature back! I always liked doing this, plus it gives me a chance to spotlight some of my favorite comic books and comic writers. Today, I'm going to focus on the latter, since the series I'm featuring today wasn't very good. Hit the jump for the lines.

New Spider-Man Director Hired! Fandom ablaze with muttering!

CBR reported this yesterday, and it is now confirmed by Sony, but the director of (500) Days of Summer, Marc Webb, is the new director of the Spider-Man film franchise. Webb is signed to do 3 films, all reportedly set in high school, with a script by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Rundown) for the first film. Here's what the producers had to say about the hire:
At its core, Spider-Man is a small, intimate human story about an everyday teenager that takes place in an epic super-human world. The key for us as we sought a new director was to identify filmmakers who could give sharp focus to Peter Parker’s life. We wanted someone who could capture the awe of being in Peter’s shoes so the audience could experience his sense of discovery while giving real heart to the emotion, anxiety, and recklessness of that age and coupling all of that with the adrenaline of Spider-Man’s adventure. We believe Marc Webb is the perfect choice to bring us on that journey
I do appreciate the fact that they realize that it is not all action and that a big part of the life of Peter Parker is the personal stuff, as he has probably the most heart-ache of any super-hero. I enjoyed (500) Days of Summer, and I think that it did show that Webb is capable of capturing the quiet moments very well. My concern is the action, the stuff that has always made Spider-Man head and shoulders above all the other superheroes. Webb hasn't really directed much of anything except this one movie and a couple music videos. Is that enough of a pedigree for the premier Marvel superhero? I know this, if Marvel Studios controlled this property, he wouldn't have gotten the job. But I think he deserves a chance to bring the emotion to a high school Parker, and I'm definitely willing to give him that chance.

Links You Should Know

Hey hey hey. So I thought I would mix it up today for this edition of Links You Should Know, and throw in a link for something not necessarily comic book or movie related. So instead, here's a link to this great site that I check out all the time called Epic Photos of Win, which is run by the people who do Fail Blog and it is a hilarious site filled with some hysterical photos of things. Check it out!

Trade Secrets: Chew Vol. 1

I'm back! So, sorry that I kind of disappeared for a little bit last week, but as I said I was trying to finish a full-length play that I started writing way back in August (I finished it!) and I was also recovering from a nasty cold at the same time. I now feel way better though, and this week I'm going to cover all of my features with new posts for each feature, and even introducing a new feature. Anyway, today is a new edition of Trade Secrets where I am going to review one of the biggest indie books from last year, Chew. Hit the jump for the review.

Links You Should Know

I'm working on finally finishing a full-length play that I've been writing for months. And I'm sick with the flu. So therefore, I'm just going to put up a link to the new Kick-Ass trailer. Watch it, and get ready for this spring when it comes out, because it's going to be awesome.

Spidey's Advocate - Spider-man 4 Now a Re-boot of the Franchise

It's official, after initially just delaying the start of Spider-man 4, Sam Raimi has left the franchise that he started, and Tobey Maguire is going with him. Announced today, and confirmed on IGN, Spider-man 4 is now going to be a reboot of the franchise with Peter Parker back in high school. Man this sucks, right? Wrong. This is probably the best news possible in this situation. Yeahbuwha? I'm serious. I think now that Raimi and Maguire are gone, there is finally hope that Spider-man 4 is not going to suck. Hit the jump for the reasons.

2009: A Year in Songs

So, I'm blantantly stealing this idea from my friend Nicole, but it's okay because I am now acknowledging that I'm stealing it from her. The show that I'm acting in, A Look Through Our Eyes, opened this weekend to two really good perfomances, but today I am just wiped out so I'm just going to make a quick post here. 2009 was an interesting year for me. It started off with me being almost completely miserable as I was essentially a nomad and was stuck working in a two person team with a heinous bitch (she got replaced a month later with one of the cheeriest and nicest person I've probably ever met). Then it ended with me working a 9 to 5 office job while acting, writing, and operating my own comic book blog out of an awesome apartment. So I've come a long way baby. Time to recap this past in terms of songs. I picked 12 songs that sum up my past year, but they also are awesome songs too so if you like them you should iTunes them or get the CD. Might Be Out of Touch for a Little While...

Hey gang, so I am acting in a show this weekend here in Chicago called A Look Through Our Eyes. I'm really excited about the performances for the show as I feel that it is a very good and incredibly moving piece. What this means, however, is that I'm going to be in tech tonight and doing performances this weekend, so I won't have any time to post new stuff to the blog until Sunday. But after this weekend, I'm planning on kicking things off for the blog with a Trade Secrets on Chew vol. 1, a Put it Out to Pasture on Bendis's Avengers run, and a return of the All-time Awesome Lines from Comics spotlighting one of favorite on-going series The Walking Dead. So until then, I thought I would help tide you over with this screenshot from the hilarious blog Failbooking, from the people who brought us Failblog.org, and a link to their new site so you can go on there and ROTFL to your hearts content (I don't know what that means, I don't get most internet speak). Links You Should Know

April 16th - 18th, 2010. That is the opening weekend for something that I hope becomes an annual tradition here in Chicago, the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo (More commonly known as C2E2). C2E2 is going to be at McCormick Place this year, and this is the guest list that has been announced so far: Alex Ross, Geoff Johns, Steve McNiven, Steve Epting, Ethan Van Schiver, Mike Mignola, Mike Perkins, and many others. One of my favorite writers of comics all-time (Johns) and my two favorite artists (McNiven and Ross) are all at the same comic-con, which equals me spending lots of money. Anyway, it is today's Link You Should Know because I am super-excited about this and I think that you should be too.

The Chicago Bears: Committed to Mediocrity

*Warning Angry Rant* I wanted to write this before I calmed down, since I know that when I do I'll manage to talk myself into believing that somehow the Bears have a chance to be great next season, when really the Bears have just made a move that guarantees a losing record in 2010 already. That's right. Lovie Smith is back next season as the Bears Head Coach. Hit the jump for the bile.

My Show Opens on Friday!

Hey, so this is just a quick and unabashed plug, but if you live in or around the Chicago area and enjoy theater, I figured I'd go ahead and post this here too. I am appearing in A Look Through Our Eyes at Gorlla Tango Theater this weekend, January 8th and 9th at 10pm, and next Saturday, January 16th at 6pm. The play is a monologue show about 9/11 that deals with real people's reactions, thoughts, feelings about September 11th and the events that happened after it. The cast is great and I've really enjoyed working on this show, so if you like my blog than you'll love watching me act! Come see it!

Trade Secrets: Old Man Logan

The thing that is really awesome about Christmas every year is that since my family knows that I am a huge comic book fan, every year I get two or three trades that I'm really interested in. This year, I got as a present The Boys Vol.s 4 and 5, as well as the over-sized hardcover of Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's Old Man Logan. I'm going to post a review of all of these books in time, but I wanted to start off with Old Man Logan because I really liked it (I named it Miniseries of the Year) and the last Trade Secrets was about the Boys so I figured I'd mix it up a little bit before doing my review of another The Boys volume. The Future of Event Fatigue

Man, the last three months have flown by. It feels like yesterday I just started this blog as a way to goof off and as an outlet for my bitter comic book related cynicism. But in three months I've written over fifty articles (some were really short) for this fair blog and I was joined by two of my very good friends from IWU, Tim Dunn and Peter Durkin, as co-authors who will help to balance out the perspectives of the site. So, with the first couple steps and growing pains out of the way, what is there to look forward to? LOTS! Hit the jump for a little preview of what 2010 has in store for our fair blog.

Event Fatigue's Worst of 2009

In lots of ways, 2009 was just a terrible year that a lot of people are going to wish just never existed in the first place. Layoffs, the economy still struggling to aloft, health care "reform", and of course Kanye West not letting people finish after interrupting their special moment despite saying he was going to. But really, with a much brighter 2010 just around the corner, we think that the time is right to look back, point, and laugh at the really bad things that came out in '09. It's the same set-up as our Best of '09 list, with the same categories as yesterday too. Hit the jump for the list.

Event Fatigue's Best of 2009 List

Welcome to Event Fatigue's list of the very best of 2009 in comic books, movies, and tv as decided by each of the writers on this our fair blog. We're going to all give our choices for each category, along with a brief write-up of why we chose what we did, and we're going to alternate who goes first so that way it's fair. So with 2009 now almost completely behind us, let's revisit the best that the year had to offer us, shall we? Hit the jump for article.

Warwick's Top 10 Films of 2009

Well, here we are. The end of the year, a time when everyone is putting together their Top 10 lists and talking about the "best" films of the past year. I actually really like this time of year because I enjoy Top 10 lists and I like looking back on films that I had seen and really enjoyed, plus I think it is really interesting to see different people's perspectives on film and the best way to see that is by what they rank in the top 3 on their lists. I have a theory that everyone's top 3 are always set in stone as to what films are up there, but the position changes depending on that person's mood or feelings when they are ranking them. And that's why I find them interesting. Anyway, my picks for the year are after the jump. Punch it Chewy!

2010: A Look Ahead

Man oh man, Christmas flew by. We're only a couple days away from finally putting 2009 behind us, and moving on to what should be a much better and brighter year. I'm going to be putting a "Best of 2009" post up later this week, hopefully before the end of '09, but I thought first I would bring up some of the things to really look forward to in the upcoming year. Hit the jump for the preview.

It's A Wonderful Life - A Quote a Day

Merry Christmas!! I hope that all of you are having a great holiday and no matter how or what you are celebrating I sincerely hope that you are happy and spending today with people you love. 2009 has been a great year for me, not the least of which has to do with this blog that I started only three months ago, so if you are reading this, than thank you so much for doing so. I love writing this blog and I'm definitely in this for the long haul, and I really do appreciate all of you for joining me in this so Thank You. For Chirstmas today I'm going to be sharing my two favorite quotes from this film. Enjoy.

Harry Bailey (surrounded by the townspeople): A toast to my big brother George: The richest man in town.

Clarence: Remember George, No man is a failure who has friends.

Merry Christmas everybody.

It's a Wonderful Life - A Quote a Day

Clarence: Your brother, Harry Bailey, broke through the ice and was drowned at the age of nine.

George Bailey: That's a lie! Harry Bailey went to war - he got the Congressional Medal of Honor, he saved the lives of every man on that transport.

Clarence: Every man on that transport died! Harry wasn't there to save them, because you weren't there to save Harry.

Clarence: You see George, you've really had a wonderful life. Don't you see what a mistake it would be to just throw it away?

It's A Wonderful Life - A Quote a Day

So I decided today that since I'm going to be busy getting ready for Christmas and then, you know, enjoying my Christmas, I'm going to simply post a new quote everyday from It's A Wonderful Life all the way through Christmas. To get it started today, I'm going to actually post two quotes. Enjoy!

George Bailey: "Just remember this, Mr. Potter, that this rabble you're talking about... they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath? Anyway, my father didn't think so. People were human beings to him. But to you, a warped, frustrated old man, they're cattle. Well, in my book he died a much richer man than you'll ever be."

And here's the other one, one of my absolute favorite quotes from this film:

Clarence: "Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?"

2 Days Until Christmas!
